Isaiah of Kykkos

Venerable Isaiah, hermit and founder of the Kykkos Monastery in Cyprus.

St. Isaiah was a hermit of the Troodos mountains of Cyprus in the eleventh century. Tradition relates that the Byzantine governor Manuel Boutomites, healed through his prayers, obtained for him from the emperor Alexios Komnenos the icon of the Theotokos painted by St. Luke, around which he founded the monastery of Kykkos.

Kykkos remains the most venerated monastery of Cyprus. St. Isaiah is commemorated on September 10.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Isaiah of Kykkos is commemorated on September 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 23 of the civil calendar.
