Righteous Joseph of Arimathea, who buried the body of the Lord.
Righteous Joseph of Arimathea was a member of the Sanhedrin and a secret disciple of Christ who boldly asked Pilate for the Lord's body, wrapped it in linen and laid it in his own new tomb. He is commemorated in the hymns of Holy Saturday and the Myrrhbearers.
Tradition relates that he later preached the Gospel far from Judea and reposed in peace.

On the New Calendar, Joseph of Arimathea is commemorated on July 31. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 13 of the civil calendar.
