Julian of Emesa

Holy Martyr Julian the physician of Emesa in Syria.

St. Julian was a physician of Emesa in Syria who healed both body and soul, bringing many to faith in Christ. During the persecution of Maximian he visited the imprisoned bishop Silvanos and his companions and encouraged them.

Denounced as a Christian, he was tortured and finally put to death with nails driven into his head and limbs, in the early fourth century.

On the New Calendar, Julian of Emesa is commemorated on February 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 19 of the civil calendar.
