Translation of the relics of Saint Lazarus, friend of Christ and Bishop of Kition, to Constantinople.
After the Lord raised him from the dead, Lazarus fled the hatred of the Jews and came to Cyprus, where he was made Bishop of Kition and served for many years before his second death.
In 890 the emperor Leo the Wise had his relics translated from Kition to Constantinople and built a church in his honor; the Church commemorates the event on this day.
