Saint Makarios Notaras, Metropolitan of Corinth, Kollyvades father and co-compiler of the Philokalia.
Makarios Notaras was born in Corinth in 1731 and was chosen Metropolitan of Corinth by his people. Removed from his see after the uprising of 1770, he devoted himself to the spiritual renewal of the Greek people, defending frequent Communion and the traditions of the Church.
With Saint Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain he gathered and published the Philokalia, and he prepared many new martyrs for their confession. He reposed on Chios in 1805.
