Malachi the New Martyr of Rhodes

New Martyr Malachi of Rhodes, monk martyred in Jerusalem.

St. Malachi was born at Lindos on Rhodes and became a monk in Jerusalem, where he served the Holy Sepulchre. Tradition relates that he was accused before the Turkish authorities of insulting Islam and, refusing to convert, was tortured and put to death in 1500.

He is commemorated on September 29.

On the New Calendar, Malachi the New Martyr of Rhodes is commemorated on September 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 12 of the civil calendar.
