Mamelchtha of Persia

Holy Martyr Mamelchtha of Persia, a former priestess of Artemis who was stoned for Christ.

Mamelchtha was a pagan priestess of Artemis in Persia whose sister was a Christian. Moved by a vision of an angel, she came to faith and was baptized by the local bishop.

As she left the baptistery still wearing her white robes, the pagans stoned her to death, and she received the crown of martyrdom in the fourth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Mamelchtha of Persia is commemorated on October 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 18 of the civil calendar.
