  Charitine

  Holy Woman, Χαριτίνη

  St. Charitina was a young Christian woman who suffered martyrdom during the persecutions at the beginning of the fourth century. An orphan raised by a pious guardian, she lived in prayer and purity, and when she was denounced as a Christian she confessed Christ boldly, enduring cruel tortures until she gave her soul to God.

• Methodia of Kimolos

  Holy Woman, Μεθοδία

  Methodia was born on the island of Kimolos in 1865 and was married as a young woman. When her husband was lost at sea, she took the monastic habit and enclosed herself in a cell beside the church of the Panagia, living in fasting, vigil and prayer.

• Hermogenes the Hieromartyr

  Hierarch, Ερμογένης

  Hermogenes is commemorated in the Synaxarion as a hieromartyr and wonderworker who confessed Christ and was put to death for the faith. Tradition relates that he ended his martyrdom by fire.

• Mamelchtha of Persia

  Holy Woman, Μαμέλχθα

  Mamelchtha was a pagan priestess of Artemis in Persia whose sister was a Christian. Moved by a vision of an angel, she came to faith and was baptized by the local bishop.

• Eudokimos of Vatopedi

  Venerable, Ευδόκιμος ο Βατοπεδινός

  Nothing is known of the earthly life of this monk of Vatopedi. In 1840, when the monastery's ossuary was being rearranged, his relics were found in a kneeling posture, fragrant and holding an icon of the Theotokos.

• John Mavropous of Euchaita

  Hierarch, Ιωάννης ο Μαυρόπους

  John Mavropous was one of the most learned men of eleventh-century Constantinople, teacher of Michael Psellos and a counsellor of the emperor Constantine IX Monomachos. He was later consecrated Metropolitan of Euchaita in Pontus.
