  Hierotheus of Athens

  Hierarch, Ιερόθεος

  St. Hierotheos was an Athenian of the apostolic age, converted by the preaching of the Apostle Paul and made a bishop of Athens. Tradition remembers him as a man of deep divine wisdom, the teacher and companion of St. Dionysios the Areopagite, and relates that he was present with the apostles at the Dormition of the Theotokos, where his hymnody moved all who heard him.

• Domnina and her daughters Bernike and Prosdoke

  Holy Woman, Δομνίνα, Βερνίκη και Προσδόκη

  Domnina, a Christian noblewoman of Antioch, fled with her two daughters to Edessa during the persecution of Diocletian. Her pagan husband pursued them with soldiers and seized them on the road.

  John was born at Lampadou in Cyprus to pious parents who had him educated and betrothed. Tradition relates that his intended bride's family poisoned his food when he chose the ascetic life, and he lost his sight.

• Peter of Capitolias

  Hierarch, Πέτρος ο Ιερομάρτυς

  Peter was a learned and devout monk of Capitolias beyond the Jordan who was ordained priest by the Bishop of Bostra. Under Arab rule he openly refuted the errors of Islam and preached Christ.

• Audaktos and Kallisthene

  Holy Woman, Αύδακτος και Καλλισθένη

  Audaktos was a nobleman of Ephesus whose daughter Kallisthene was sought in marriage by the emperor Maximian Galerius. Because she refused for Christ's sake, her father was stripped of his rank and possessions, exiled, and finally beheaded.

  Venerable, Αμμούν ο Αιγύπτιος

  Ammoun was compelled by his relatives to marry, but persuaded his bride to live with him in chastity as brother and sister. After eighteen years they separated by agreement, and he withdrew to the desert of Nitria, where he became the father of a great monastic settlement.
