Audaktos and Kallisthene

Holy Martyr Audaktos and his daughter Saint Kallisthene of Ephesus.

Audaktos was a nobleman of Ephesus whose daughter Kallisthene was sought in marriage by the emperor Maximian Galerius. Because she refused for Christ's sake, her father was stripped of his rank and possessions, exiled, and finally beheaded.

Kallisthene fled in disguise and lived in hiding until the persecution ended; she then recovered her father's relics and spent the rest of her life in works of charity and prayer.

On the New Calendar, Audaktos and Kallisthene is commemorated on October 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 17 of the civil calendar.
