Peter of Capitolias

Holy Hieromartyr Peter of Capitolias, priest and monk beheaded by the Saracens.

Peter was a learned and devout monk of Capitolias beyond the Jordan who was ordained priest by the Bishop of Bostra. Under Arab rule he openly refuted the errors of Islam and preached Christ.

For this he was seized, cruelly mutilated, and finally beheaded and burned, receiving the crown of martyrdom.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Peter of Capitolias is commemorated on October 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 17 of the civil calendar.
