  Dionysios the Areopagite

  Hierarch, Διονύσιος Αρεοπαγίτης

  St. Dionysios the Areopagite was an Athenian of the first century, a member of the court of the Areopagus, converted when the Apostle Paul preached in Athens of the God whom the city honored without knowing. According to tradition he became the first Bishop of Athens and ended his life as a martyr.

  Damaris is named in the Acts of the Apostles among those who believed when Paul preached at the Areopagus in Athens, together with Dionysios the Areopagite.

• John the Chozebite

  John was born in Thebes of Egypt and, after ascetic training there, settled in the Choziba ravine near Jericho, where a famous lavra grew up around him. Against his will he was made Bishop of Caesarea in Palestine in the late sixth century.

• Dionysios the Recluse of the Caves

  Venerable, Διονύσιος ο Έγκλειστος

  Dionysios was a hieromonk of the Kiev Caves Lavra in the fifteenth century who served as keeper of the caves where the relics of the fathers rest. The Paterikon relates that on Pascha of 1463, when he censed the relics and cried 'Christ is risen,' the departed fathers answered 'Truly He is risen.'
