Dionysios the Recluse of the Caves

Venerable Dionysios the Recluse of the Kiev Caves, hieromonk and guardian of the relics of the Far Caves.

Dionysios was a hieromonk of the Kiev Caves Lavra in the fifteenth century who served as keeper of the caves where the relics of the fathers rest. The Paterikon relates that on Pascha of 1463, when he censed the relics and cried 'Christ is risen,' the departed fathers answered 'Truly He is risen.'

After this he shut himself in a cell as a recluse and lived there in prayer until his repose.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Dionysios the Recluse of the Caves is commemorated on October 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 16 of the civil calendar.
