Pachomios the New Martyr

Venerable Martyr Pachomios of Ousaki, an Athonite monk beheaded for Christ.

Pachomios was born in Little Russia, captured by the Tatars and sold to a Turk in Ousaki in Asia Minor, where he served for many years without abandoning his faith. Freed, he became a monk on Mount Athos under the elder Joseph.

Returning to Ousaki, he was accused of having once accepted Islam and, refusing to deny Christ, was beheaded in 1730.

On the New Calendar, Pachomios the New Martyr is commemorated on May 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 3 of the civil calendar.
