Peter of Sebaste

St. Peter, Bishop of Sebaste, brother of St. Basil the Great.

St. Peter was the youngest brother of St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory of Nyssa, raised by their sister St. Makrina. He became abbot of the monastery founded by Basil on the river Iris and later Bishop of Sebaste in Armenia.

He took part in the Second Ecumenical Council and reposed in peace. He is commemorated on January 9.

On the New Calendar, Peter of Sebaste is commemorated on January 9. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 22 of the civil calendar.
