Venerable Philotheos, hesychast of Karyes on Mount Athos.
Venerable Philotheos was a hesychast of Karyes on the Holy Mountain in the fifteenth century, the spiritual father of St. Nektarios of Bitola. He lived in stillness and prayer at his cell and reposed in peace.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Philotheos of Karyes is commemorated on December 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 18 of the civil calendar.
