Photeine of Cyprus

Venerable Photeine the Cypriot, ascetic of the Karpasia peninsula.

Venerable Photeine lived as a hermitess in a cave near Rizokarpaso in Cyprus. Tradition relates that she spent her life in prayer and fasting, and that the faithful of the region venerated her from an early date.

A church and holy spring in the Karpasia peninsula still bear her name.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Photeine of Cyprus is commemorated on August 2. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 15 of the civil calendar.
