Theodore the New Martyr of Dardanelles

Holy New Martyr Theodore, who suffered at the Dardanelles under the Ottomans.

Saint Theodore was a Greek Christian who, in the years of Ottoman rule, was pressured to renounce his faith. Tradition relates that after a period of weakness he repented openly, confessed Christ before the authorities at the Dardanelles and was put to death.

He is one of the many New Martyrs of the Turkish yoke honoured by the Greek Church.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theodore the New Martyr of Dardanelles is commemorated on August 2. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 15 of the civil calendar.
