Photios of Akapniou

Venerable Photios, founder of the Akapniou Monastery in Thessaloniki.

St. Photios was an ascetic who founded the Monastery of Akapniou in Thessaloniki. Tradition relates that he lived in the tenth or eleventh century and was known for his holiness and spiritual guidance.

He reposed in peace and was honored by the monastery he founded.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Photios of Akapniou is commemorated on July 9. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 22 of the civil calendar.
