Severus, Memnon and the 37 Martyrs of Bizye

Holy Martyrs Severus, Memnon the Centurion and thirty-seven soldiers who suffered in Thrace.

Saint Severus was a Christian of Thrace who confessed Christ under Diocletian. The centurion Memnon, moved by his courage, believed with thirty-seven of his soldiers, and all were put to death together at Bizye.

They are commemorated as a company on this day.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Severus, Memnon and the 37 Martyrs of Bizye is commemorated on August 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 2 of the civil calendar.
