Stephen the New Light

Venerable Stephen the New Light of Constantinople.

Venerable Stephen, called the New Light, was a monk of Constantinople in the tenth century. Tradition relates that he lived in extreme asceticism, enclosed in a narrow cell near the church of St. Antipas, taking almost no food, and that he reposed in peace after many years of such labour.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Stephen the New Light is commemorated on December 9. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 22 of the civil calendar.
