Holy Monk-Martyr Stephen the Younger.
The holy monk-martyr Stephen the Younger was an ascetic of Mount Auxentios near Constantinople in the eighth century, during the persecution of the holy icons. A monk from his youth and a guide to many, he refused to subscribe to the iconoclast council and boldly defended the veneration of the icons before the emperor himself; for this he was imprisoned, and he was finally killed by a mob in the streets of the capital.
He is honored as the foremost martyr of the iconoclast persecution. He is commemorated on November 28.
