Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles

Joint commemoration of the Seventy Apostles sent out by the Lord.

The Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles gathers into one feast all those disciples whom the Lord sent out two by two before Him, as recorded in the Gospel of Luke, together with the fellow-workers of the Twelve named in the Epistles.

Each of the Seventy also has his own day of commemoration through the year; on January 4 the Church honors them all together.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles is commemorated on January 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 17 of the civil calendar.
