St. Theodore of Tarsus, Greek monk who became Archbishop of Canterbury.
St. Theodore was a Greek monk born at Tarsus in Cilicia who was living in Rome when, in 668, he was consecrated Archbishop of Canterbury at an advanced age. He organized the dioceses of England, founded a school at Canterbury where Greek and Latin learning flourished, and united the English Church under one order.
He reposed in 690 and is commemorated on September 19.
