Translation of the Relics of Nicholas to Bari

Commemoration of the translation of the relics of Saint Nicholas from Myra to Bari.

In 1087 sailors from Bari carried the relics of Saint Nicholas from Myra in Lycia, then under Turkish threat, to their own city, where a great basilica was raised over them. The relics have continued to exude a fragrant liquid, the manna of Saint Nicholas.

The Greek calendar keeps the memory of the translation on May 20.

On the New Calendar, Translation of the Relics of Nicholas to Bari is commemorated on May 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 2 of the civil calendar.
