Tychon of Amathus

Bishop Tychon of Amathus.

St. Tychon was Bishop of Amathus in Cyprus in the fifth century. The son of a baker, he was known from youth for his generosity to the poor, and as bishop he labored with apostolic zeal to turn the remaining pagans of the island from their idols to Christ, shepherding his flock with gentleness and prayer.

He was glorified as a wonderworker both in life and after his repose, and has been venerated in Cyprus from ancient times as one of the island's own saints. He is commemorated on June 16.

On the New Calendar, Tychon of Amathus is commemorated on June 16. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 29 of the civil calendar.
