  Patapios

  Venerable, Παπάτιος

  Venerable Patapios was born in Thebes of Egypt and embraced the ascetic life in the desert from his youth. Fleeing the fame that his holiness drew, he came to Constantinople, where he lived in stillness and prayer, and many were healed through his intercession; the Church's hymns remember him especially as a healer of the sick.

  These holy apostles of the Seventy are named in the New Testament as fellow-workers of St. Paul. Sosthenes is mentioned at the head of the First Epistle to the Corinthians; Apollos was the eloquent Alexandrian who watered what Paul had planted; Tychicus carried Paul's letters to the churches; Epaphroditus brought the gifts of the Philippians to Paul in prison.

• Sophronios of Cyprus

  Hierarch, Σωφρόνιος Κύπρου

  Sophronios was born in Cyprus and, after a life of piety and learning, was made Archbishop of the island. The Synaxarion records that he shepherded his flock with wisdom and reposed in peace.

• Parthenios of Chios

  Venerable, Παρθένιος ο εν Χίω

  Venerable Parthenios was a monk of Chios in the nineteenth century, a hymnographer and iconographer who founded the monastery of Panagia Voithia near the town of Chios. He reposed in peace in 1883 and is honoured by the faithful of the island.
