  Marina the Great Martyr

  Martyr, Μαρίνα η Μεγαλομάρτυς

  St. Marina the Great Martyr was born in Antioch of Pisidia in the third century. Losing her mother as a child and raised in the countryside, she embraced Christ in her youth; when her faith became known she was seized during the persecutions, and though only about fifteen years of age she withstood interrogation, torture, and, according to tradition, the assaults of the evil one, whom she overcame by prayer, before being beheaded.

• Speratos and Veronica

  Martyr, Σπεράτος και Βηρονίκη

  Sts. Speratos and Veronica are numbered among the Scillitan Martyrs, Christians of North Africa who were tried at Carthage in the second century and refused to swear by the emperor. Their trial is one of the earliest recorded acts of the martyrs.

• Euphrasios of Ionopolis

  Hierarch, Ευφράσιος Ιωνοπόλεως

  St. Euphrasios served as Bishop of Ionopolis on the Black Sea coast of Asia Minor. Little is recorded of his life beyond his episcopal service.

• Translation of the Relics of Lazarus of Galesion

  Saint, Λάζαρος ο Γαλησιώτης

  This day commemorates the translation of the relics of St. Lazarus of Mount Galesion, the eleventh-century stylite who lived near Ephesus and founded monasteries on the mountain. Educated at the Lavra of St. Savva in Palestine, he was known for asceticism and wonderworking.
