  Matthew the Evangelist

  Apostle, Ματθαίος ο Ευαγγελιστής

  The holy apostle and evangelist Matthew was a tax collector at Capernaum when the Lord called him with the words Follow me; he rose at once, left everything, and made a feast for Christ in his house. One of the Twelve, he wrote the first of the four Gospels, setting forth Christ as the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.

• Iphigenia the Virgin Martyr

  Holy Woman, Ιφιγένεια η Παρθενομάρτυς

  Tradition relates that Iphigenia was a princess of Ethiopia who was healed and baptized by the Apostle Matthew and dedicated herself to Christ as a virgin, gathering other maidens around her.

• Philoumenos of Jacob's Well

  Hierarch, Φιλούμενος ο Νεοϊερομάρτυς

  Saint Philoumenos was born in Cyprus in 1913 and became a monk of the Jerusalem Patriarchate. In 1979 he was appointed guardian of the shrine of Jacob's Well at Nablus, where the Lord spoke with the Samaritan woman.
