• Paramon and Philomenus

  Martyr, Παράμονος

  The holy martyrs Paramon and Philomenus suffered for Christ in the third century, during the Roman persecutions. Tradition relates that Paramon, seeing a multitude of Christians being tortured for refusing to sacrifice to idols, openly confessed Christ and was put to death with them; Philomenus likewise sealed his confession with his blood.

• Dionysios of Corinth

  Hierarch, Διονύσιος Κορίνθου

  Saint Dionysios was Bishop of Corinth in the second century and is known from Eusebius for his letters to many churches, which combined teaching with pastoral care. He is honoured in the synaxarion as a hieromartyr.

• Phaedros the Martyr

  Martyr, Φαίδρος

  Saint Phaedros is honoured in the synaxarion as a martyr who was put to death by having boiling resin poured over him.

• Valerian the Martyr

  Saint Valerian is commemorated in the synaxarion as a martyr who suffered for Christ by the sword.

• Nicholas of Thessaloniki

  Hierarch, Νικόλαος Θεσσαλονίκης

  Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Thessaloniki, is recorded in the Synaxarion of Constantinople and the Menaia as having reposed in peace on this day. Later lists of the bishops of Thessaloniki place him in the second century, though this dating is uncertain.

• Abibus of Nekresi

  Hierarch, Άβιβος Γεωργίας

  Saint Abibus was one of the Thirteen Syrian Fathers who came to Georgia in the sixth century and was made Bishop of Nekresi. He preached against the Persian fire worship and, tradition relates, extinguished a sacred fire of the Zoroastrians.

  On this day the Church of Greece commemorates together all the saints connected with Achaia in the northern Peloponnese, from the Apostle Andrew, who was martyred at Patras, to the martyrs and ascetics of later centuries.
