Abibus of Nekresi

Hieromartyr Abibus, Bishop of Nekresi in Georgia, one of the Thirteen Syrian Fathers.

Saint Abibus was one of the Thirteen Syrian Fathers who came to Georgia in the sixth century and was made Bishop of Nekresi. He preached against the Persian fire worship and, tradition relates, extinguished a sacred fire of the Zoroastrians.

He was arrested by the Persians and stoned to death.

On the New Calendar, Abibus of Nekresi is commemorated on November 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 12 of the civil calendar.
