  St. Philotheos was a married priest of a village in Bithynia in the tenth century, a man of prayer, fasting and generous charity. Tradition relates that he was granted the gift of working miracles in his lifetime, and that after his repose a healing myrrh flowed from his relics.

  October 21, Venerable, Φιλόθεος ο Αγιορείτης

  Philotheos was born in 1526 at Elateia in Asia Minor and was taken captive with his brother by the Turks as a child; his mother, who had become a nun, later found and freed them. He became a monk at the monastery of Dionysiou on Mount Athos.
