1,003 Martyrs of Nicomedia

The Holy 1,003 Martyrs of Nicomedia, servants of four martyred dignitaries.

The 1,003 martyrs were the household servants of four Christian officials of Nicomedia who had been put to death under Diocletian. Following the example of their masters, they presented themselves to the emperor and confessed Christ together with their wives and children.

All were slain by the sword in the early fourth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, 1,003 Martyrs of Nicomedia is commemorated on February 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 20 of the civil calendar.
