New Martyr George Divolis of Alikianos in Crete.
St. George was born in the village of Alikianos in Crete, the son of a priest. During the Cretan uprising of 1866 he was captured by the Turks together with other insurgents and pressed with threats and torture to change his faith in order to save his life.
He confessed Christ with courage and was put to death, receiving the crown of martyrdom.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, George of Alikianos is commemorated on February 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 20 of the civil calendar.
