Achillios of Larisa

Saint Achillios, Bishop of Larisa, wonderworker and father of the First Ecumenical Council.

Achillios was born in Cappadocia and, after travels in the Holy Land and Rome, was chosen Bishop of Larisa in Thessaly in the fourth century. He took part in the Council of Nicaea in 325, where tradition relates that he confounded the Arians by a miracle.

He built churches, destroyed pagan temples and worked many wonders, reposing around 330. His relics were carried to Prespa in the tenth century and returned to Larisa in 1981.

On the New Calendar, Achillios of Larisa is commemorated on May 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 28 of the civil calendar.
