Andrew the Hermit

Venerable Andrew the Hermit and Wonderworker of Epirus.

Andrew was born in Monodendri in Epirus and lived as a hermit in a cave near Kalana in the mountains of Aetolia, tradition placing him in the thirteenth century. He spent his life in prayer and hardship and was known for the wonders worked through him.

His cave and relics remain a place of pilgrimage.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Andrew the Hermit is commemorated on May 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 28 of the civil calendar.
