Holy Martyr Agathonikos of Nicomedia and those with him.
St. Agathonikos was a Christian of noble birth in Nicomedia who lived in the time of the Emperor Maximian. Zealous for the faith, he brought many pagans to Christ, for which he was seized by the governor, tortured, and taken in chains along the road toward Byzantium together with other confessors.
The synaxaria relate that he and his companions were beheaded for Christ near Selymbria in Thrace. A church was later raised in his honor in Constantinople. He is commemorated on August 22.
