Anastasios and Demetrios of Lesvos

Holy New Martyrs Anastasios Paneras and Demetrios Begiazis of Lesvos.

Saints Anastasios and Demetrios were young men from the island of Lesvos who were pressured to convert to Islam. Repenting of a moment of weakness, they confessed Christ before the Ottoman authorities in Mytilene and were put to death in the nineteenth century.

They are honoured among the New Martyrs of Lesvos.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anastasios and Demetrios of Lesvos is commemorated on August 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 24 of the civil calendar.
