Euplos the Deacon

Holy Great Martyr Euplos the Deacon of Catania.

Saint Euplos was a deacon in Catania in Sicily during the persecution of Diocletian. He was arrested while carrying the book of the Gospels and, refusing to surrender it or to deny Christ, was tortured and beheaded in 304.

He is honoured as one of the great martyrs of Sicily.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Euplos the Deacon is commemorated on August 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 24 of the civil calendar.
