  Euphrosyne

  Holy Woman, Ευφροσύνη

  St. Euphrosyne of Alexandria was the only daughter of a wealthy and devout father in the fifth century. Desiring the monastic life and fleeing an arranged marriage, she secretly left her home and, concealing her identity in a men's monastery, spent many years in prayer, fasting, and hidden struggle.

• Euplos the Deacon

  Martyr, Εύπλος

  Saint Euplos was a deacon in Catania in Sicily during the persecution of Diocletian. He was arrested while carrying the book of the Gospels and, refusing to surrender it or to deny Christ, was tortured and beheaded in 304.

• Niphon Patriarch of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Νήφων Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  Saint Niphon was a monk of Mount Athos who was twice raised to the patriarchal throne of Constantinople in the late fifteenth century. Deposed by the Ottomans, he served the Church in Wallachia and later returned to the Monastery of Dionysiou, where he lived humbly as a simple monk.

• Anastasios and Demetrios of Lesvos

  Martyr, Αναστάσιος Πανεράς και Δημήτριος Μπεγιάζης

  Saints Anastasios and Demetrios were young men from the island of Lesvos who were pressured to convert to Islam. Repenting of a moment of weakness, they confessed Christ before the Ottoman authorities in Mytilene and were put to death in the nineteenth century.
