Saint Niphon, Patriarch of Constantinople and ascetic of Mount Athos.
Saint Niphon was a monk of Mount Athos who was twice raised to the patriarchal throne of Constantinople in the late fifteenth century. Deposed by the Ottomans, he served the Church in Wallachia and later returned to the Monastery of Dionysiou, where he lived humbly as a simple monk.
His relics rest at Dionysiou, and he is greatly venerated in both Greece and Romania.
