Anastasios the New Martyr of Agios Vlasios

New Martyr Anastasios the Furrier from Agios Vlasios, who suffered in Constantinople.

St. Anastasios, called Gounaras, the Furrier, was from the village of Agios Vlasios near Thessaloniki. Tradition relates that after falling into apostasy he repented and boldly confessed Christ in Constantinople.

He was beheaded in 1743 and is honored among the New Martyrs.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anastasios the New Martyr of Agios Vlasios is commemorated on July 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 21 of the civil calendar.
