Anthimos of Chios

Venerable Anthimos Vagianos of Chios, founder of the Convent of Panagia Voithia.

St. Anthimos was born on Chios in 1869 to a poor family and from youth was drawn to prayer and the ascetic life. He became a monk and priest and, tradition relates, was granted the gifts of healing and spiritual discernment, ministering for years among the lepers of Chios.

He founded the Convent of Panagia Voithia (Our Lady the Helper) on Chios, where he served as spiritual father, and reposed in 1960.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anthimos of Chios is commemorated on February 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 28 of the civil calendar.
