Maior the Martyr

Holy Martyr Maior, soldier, who suffered at Gaza.

St. Maior was a soldier serving in Gaza during the persecution of Diocletian. Denounced as a Christian, he confessed Christ before the governor with boldness.

He was scourged and tortured for many days and gave up his soul to God, in the early fourth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Maior the Martyr is commemorated on February 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 28 of the civil calendar.
