New Martyr John of Koulakia, teacher, who suffered in Thessaloniki.
St. John came from Koulakia, the present-day Chalastra near Thessaloniki, and was a teacher. For a time he lived on Mount Athos before returning to the world.
Denounced to the Turks, he confessed Christ with courage and was hanged in Thessaloniki in the eighteenth century.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, John Koulakiotis is commemorated on February 15. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 28 of the civil calendar.
