Anthony the New of Veria

Venerable Anthony the New, Wonderworker of Veria.

St. Anthony the New was born in Veria in Macedonia and lived as a hermit in a cave by the river Haliacmon, where tradition relates he spent many years in solitude and was granted the gift of miracles. His relics are venerated in Veria, of which he is the patron.

He is commemorated on January 17.

On the New Calendar, Anthony the New of Veria is commemorated on January 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 30 of the civil calendar.
