Archippos of Chonae

Venerable Archippos, sacristan of the church of the Archangel Michael at Chonae.

St. Archippos came as a boy to serve at the church of the Archangel Michael at Chonae in Phrygia, where a healing spring flowed, and lived there for many decades in fasting and prayer. When pagans diverted two rivers to sweep away the church, he prayed without ceasing, and the Archangel appeared and split the rock so that the waters were swallowed up.

He reposed in peace in old age at the shrine he had guarded. He is commemorated on September 6, the day of the Miracle at Chonae.

On the New Calendar, Archippos of Chonae is commemorated on September 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 19 of the civil calendar.
