Lygeri the New Martyr of Chios

New Martyr Lygeri of Chios, virgin martyr under the Ottomans.

St. Lygeri was a young Christian woman of Chios in the Ottoman period. Tradition relates that, pursued by a Turk who sought to make her his wife and change her faith, she refused steadfastly and was put to death for her confession of Christ.

She is honored among the saints of Chios and commemorated on September 6.
