Arsenios of Elassona

Saint Arsenios, Archbishop of Elassona and later Archbishop of Suzdal in Russia.

Arsenios was born in Thessaly in the sixteenth century and became Archbishop of Elassona. Sent on Church business to Moscow, he remained in Russia, took part in the establishment of the Moscow Patriarchate, and was later made Archbishop of Suzdal.

He was a scholar and a builder of churches and reposed in Suzdal in 1625, where his relics are venerated.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Arsenios of Elassona is commemorated on April 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 26 of the civil calendar.
