  Martin the Confessor

  Hierarch, Μαρτίνος

  St. Martin the Confessor was Pope of Rome in the seventh century. He convened a council at the Lateran which condemned the Monothelite heresy, defending the fullness of Christ's humanity against the will of the emperor. For this he was seized by imperial soldiers, carried off to Constantinople, tried and mistreated, and exiled to Cherson on the Black Sea.

• Zoilos the Roman

  Martyr, Ζωΐλος ο Ρωμαίος

  Zoilos is commemorated in the Greek synaxaria as a martyr of Rome who gave his life for Christ. Little has been preserved of his story beyond his name and his witness.

• Quintilian, Maximus and Dadas

  Martyr, Κυντιλιανός, Μάξιμος και Δάδας

  Maximus, a reader of the Church, with his companions Quintilian and Dadas, were denounced as Christians at Ozovia near Dorostolum in Moesia during the persecution of Diocletian. They refused to sacrifice to the idols.

• Eleutherios the Persian

  Martyr, Ελευθέριος ο Πέρσης

  Eleutherios was a Christian of Persia who suffered for the faith in the persecutions of the Persian kings. The synaxaria record that he was put to death for confessing Christ.

• Arsenios of Elassona

  Hierarch, Αρσένιος Ελασσώνος

  Arsenios was born in Thessaly in the sixteenth century and became Archbishop of Elassona. Sent on Church business to Moscow, he remained in Russia, took part in the establishment of the Moscow Patriarchate, and was later made Archbishop of Suzdal.
